What Is Tandem Skydiving?

Tandem skydiving is the easiest way to experience the thrill of skydiving for the first time. No prior skydiving experience is required to make a tandem jump – just a sense of adventure!

During a tandem skydive, a student skydiver is attached to a certified USPA tandem instructor by a harness. The student and certified instructor exit the plane, descend in free fall, and pilot a single canopy to the ground while securely attached to one another.

The Skydive Orange Skydiving Experience

Upon arrival at Skydive Orange, you’ll be paired with a professional, USPA-certified skydiving instructor who will accompany you throughout your entire tandem skydiving experience. You will complete a brief training session where you will learn how to properly exit the aircraft and position your body during free fall. Your tandem instructor will make sure all your questions are answered and will get you geared up and ready to go. If you have opted to have digital video and photos taken during your skydive, you will also meet your professional videographer at this time.

Together with your instructor and videographer, you’ll board a roomy, comfortable airplane. On the 15-20 minute ride to 13,500 feet (higher than any other Virginia or DC skydiving center), your instructor will connect your harnesses together. Once you reach jump altitude, you will exit the plane securely attached to your tandem instructor, free fall at 120mph for about 60 seconds, and then your instructor will deploy the parachute.  Once your parachute is open, you can help to fly it, or leave the flying to your instructor – it’s up to you!  You’ll enjoy a peaceful canopy ride overlooking the beautiful vineyards of Orange County, VA and the Blue Ridge Mountains before landing back at Skydive Orange.
