Rahlmo’s Realm: Free stuff to save your life!

Thursday, March 25, 2021

If you come through the cafe doors into Rahlmo’s Rigging, the rigging loft located at Skydive Orange, and look to the left, you’ll see some small baskets and bins marked “Free Stuff.” Normally that kind of a thing is just a promotion and includes trinkets to fill your junk drawer. Not here. Just look what you’ll find:

Closing loops—We keep lots of replacement main closing loops and washers on hand for you. Some places sell them for a dollar, but ours are free. Why? Not to be too dramatic, but a worn closing loop that breaks while people are moving around in the door can take down an entire airplane full of jumpers! The Skydiver’s Information Manual says replace it at 10 percent wear. (Rahlmo got that part written in.) How much is 10 percent? If you have to ask, just come up and get a new one!

Harness elastics—This important item keeps the free ends of your harness webbing from blowing out in the 120+ mph hurricane of a skydive. An escaped harness end can loosen or even unthread your harness, not to mention catching on a deploying parachute! Using a rubber stow band to hold your webbing ends will damage your harness, so come get the real deal—no charge!

Freefly bungies—One not-so-nice surprise when freeflying may be your leg straps sliding down to the bend in your knee. We provide the little elastic connectors between your leg straps right below your butt to help keep them in place. They sell for up to $11 or get an identical one here for free.

Keener brand rubber line stow bands— Replace those ratty, tired, over-stretched bands BEFORE they dump your lines or fail during deployment! Only the best original equipment stow bands for our Skydive Orange customers. The club provides them in the big jars downstairs and in go-bags for travel from Rahlmo’s Rigging in the loft.

And we have pull-up cords, Slink pirate hats, hand warmers, Invertica T-shirts, patches, stickers and other giveaways that cost you elsewhere. But first be sure to take care of these important safety details, provided by Rahlmo’s Rigging for our Skydive Orange clientele!

About Whitney Payne

Co-Operations Manager at Skydive Orange - Working with Skydive Orange for 10+ years - Previously positions held: Office manager, manifest, guest services, social media manager, she does it all! “If you told be 10 years ago I’d be co-managing a skydiving facility and loving every minute of it, I would have laughed in your face. I am not an adrenaline junkie, not spontaneous and definitely not a thrill-seeker but I love these people. Skydivers are truly a different breed of people and I am forever thankful for them accepting me into their community. Watching people visit Skydive Orange to face fears, celebrate milestones or just jump out of a perfectly good airplane has been truly life changing for me and helped be become the person I am today.” – Whitney Payne
