In skydiving, we are fans of getting people from point a (the ground) to point b (the air) as quickly as is safely possible. For students, this is where AFF comes in. AFF is the acronym for “Accelerated Freefall.” AFF is the quickest, most efficient method of skydiving training to get you in the air on a solo skydive.
If you’re not sure you’re ready to “go it alone”, please know, you won’t be entirely alone as “solo” may seem to imply. You’ll have two certified instructors tagging along for the ride to guide and assist you as needed. The difference is, unlike on the tandem skydive, you’ll have your very own parachute and be in charge of yourself.
Do we have your interest!?
The first step of the AFF process begins with a full day of classroom training. During this “ground school” you’ll learn everything you need to know to successfully complete your first skydive. Throughout your initial ground training, you will be walked through each step of the process by a qualified USPA rated AFF instructor. You will learn how to position your body in freefall, how to deploy the parachute, how to steer the parachute safely to the ground, and how to land said parachute. While in ground school, you’ll become familiar with the equipment you will use and will learn and drill emergency procedures until you’ve got them down pat. After your ground school, weather permitting, it’s time to transition from the classroom to the sky.
For your first skydive, you will be paired with two hands-on AFF instructors. On your first skydive, you will need to demonstrate a reasonably stable body position, reasonable altitude awareness, and initiate your deployment procedures at the appropriate altitude. As you progress, you will learn additional freefall skills and will demonstrate them in the subsequent AFF skydives.
AFF consists of ground school training and seven levels that must be completed. Each jump you complete in the AFF framework is designed to instill you with the skills you need to be a competent, safe skydiver. In order to advance from one level to the next, you must satisfactorily demonstrate the freefall skills associated with each jump.
Do you want more “responsibility” on a skydive? Are you interested in becoming a skydiver? Have you already made a tandem skydive and want to see what more is out there? Did you answer yes to any of the above?
If you meet the minimum requirements, then AFF may be the choice for you.
We are knowledgeable, skilled, and put our student’s safety first! Through the years, we’ve instructed thousands of people just like you. In fact, Skydive Orange was integral in the development of this safety-oriented student program utilized by the United States Parachute Association. With a history like that, you can rest assured you’re choosing the best. Many of our students have gone on to become skilled skydivers, and some, have even gone on to become instructors themselves!
