Are Skydiving Videos Worth It?

Y’know that moment when you see something you really like in a clothing store? The way it hangs on the hangar is so enticing–and then, when you approach it to have a look, it feels incredible under your fingers. Such obvious high quality. And you’ve seen other people you admire in something just like this, too…looking so good. You can picture yourself in this; it’s really you. Then, of course, after a little searching around the hems with your fingers, you find it. The tag. You flip it over with a little anticipation, and the number comes as a little shock. Yeowch! This is going to be a bit more of an investment than you had at first thought. But y’know what? You know it’s worth it. This is going to be making you look good for a long time, and you get the sense that it’s only going to get better with wear.

Making a skydive at a professional, responsible skydiving center with excellent facilities and a top-shelf staff is kinda like that. If you choose one, you’ve already proven that you’re not a ten-dollar-PVC-jacket kinda person. You’re in it for the experience of a lifetime, and you’re ready to invest in that.

To continue the analogy: Getting a video of your first skydive might seem, at first blush, like an accessory. It’s nice, sure, but it’s an additional expense, and it’s unnecessary…right?

Au contraire. It’s not an accessory; it’s, like, the zipper. We’d like to argue that, if this is your very first tandem skydive, there’s nothing you need more than the actual-factual proof that you did it, and that it’s the video that truly makes the jump. To be totally honest, if you’re not a newbie, it’s not as vital…but if you are? For heaven’s sake, do yourself a favor and get it on record.

In this life, some opportunities only come around once: Especially any challenge met head-on for the first time, particularly if you didn’t think that you could achieve it when it first entered your mind. Examples: Would you graduate without getting at least one picture of you in your cap and gown? Would you get married without bothering to photograph you and your new spouse in all your wedding-day magnificence? Would you let your new baby’s first day go by without immortalizing an image of the new little dude/tte wrapped up in a pair of exhausted, elated arms?

Yeah, we totally doubt it.

We urge you to allow yourself this luxury, because it isn’t really a luxury–a photo and video of a first time you’ll never repeat, even if you end up being a lifetime sport skydiver.

It’s not just about that, either–it’s about sharing what you’ve done and inspiring other people to go after their own dreams! You’re going to want to share this experience with your friends, co-workers, parents, children, book-club members, enemies, tennis buddies, classmates, fellow crossfitters and anyone lucky enough to be stuck next to you in the grocery line. If you didn’t make sure to book that skydiving video and photo package before you jumped, that desire will no doubt be a bad feeling. If you did? Nothing could possibly be more hooray.
