I was always fascinated by the stories my father would tell me of his time
in the military. It always seemed like his favorite ones were about
jumping, so much that he continued to jump even after he left the Army.
I always knew that this was something that I had to try, and when I joined
the Army, I was certain that I was going to go to Airborne School.
After I had my first static line jump I called my Dad and told him about it.
He was excited for me, but in his father tone he told me "Hey,
don't get cocky, you aren't even a 5 jump chump yet! (a military term for a
rookie parachutist) When I got home my Dad gave me his sterling silver
airborne wings for my uniform, a very proud moment for a son. I did
not find time to get into skydiving until a couple of friends that were
Military Freefall parachutists and AFF's took me to the drop zone to begin,
after that I was hooked, their was no turning back and I have been skydiving
strong ever since!
