Two Skydivers just down
from their natural habitat -
the sky over Orange!!
TANDEM SKYDIVE COURSE - $255-
Tandem skydives are for first time skydivers to experience
the thrill of skydiving easily, requiring only a 45 minute class (but
allow extra time). A Tandem skydive
is usually from over 13,500 feet, a bona fide 50
second freefall skydive with step-by-step instruction, harnessed
together with your instructor during every step of the way-- from
aircraft exit through freefall, descent, and landing.
We can teach you the basics of skydiving on a
tandem jump (Category "A" training) after which you could enter the accelerated
freefall program (see below) once learning
and performance objectives are met. Tandem jumping is truly "the skydiving
classroom in the sky". Tandem skydiving is available to a broader
range of students than the other training programs and, in certain
cases, arrangements can be made for those with physical limitations.
Tandem skydiving is the instructors' choice at Skydive Orange for all
first-time jumpers, due to its effectively training parachute
steering and control during descent and landing supervision. (Landings
are the most critical part of any skydiving training jump.) We can
usually do
Tandem jumps Wednesday through Sunday. Check out the Skydiving
video and tandem
skydiving photos link to see typical Skydive Orange tandem jumps. See also-
*Other prices shown are cash discounted
depending how you pay the balance of the cost of the skydive when you
come out to jump. Credit cards are slightly
more. No checks.
In this YouTube Tandem
skydive video the student skydiver does a
great job of watching her altitude and opening the parachute the way
skydivers are supposed to on the first category of instruction-

here to see a Tandem Skydive Video! (1,564K Windows Media Player (.WMV) file by Eric
Babcock,. We throw a small drogue
parachute right after exit for all tandem freefalls in order to
compensate for the fact that there are two people
one on top of the other so you, the passenger, feel like you are alone
in freefall. Tandem instructors carefully check the position of their
handles in freefall. This'll take quite a while to
download with slow dial up connections.

STATIC LINE first skydive course -
$265- A static line skydive is
when a nylon line from the aircraft assists main parachute opening.
This course
starts Saturdays and Sundays 8:00 A.M. and
lasts about 5 hours. Your skydive will be made the same day, weather
permitting, usually between 3:00 P.M. and sunset. Jump with others in your class on a separate pass over the
airport from 3,500 feet after a 10 - 20 minute airplane ride, followed
by a five-minute parachute ride. Since static-line students jump
independently, training is more demanding than tandem and students
must meet more rigorous performance requirements during the course
than tandem jumpers. After training, some students may be asked to
make several tandem jumps first (additional charge). After
approximately five static lines, you may begin freefall skydiving, in
the independent progression starting with short freefalls and working
up. The recommended alternative after making several static lines is a
transition to accelerated freefall training (see below). Despite its
rigorous nature, some first-jump students prefer this legacy program
to tandem for the first jump, and it is a less-expensive entry
alternative to AFF. See also-

3. AFF( Accelerated Freefall) - $380-
First AFF Skydive in Freefall
ACCELERATED FREEFALL (AFF) First Skydive
Course - $380-
The Accelerated Freefall program is available to qualified students
who have previous skydiving instruction or other piloting experience, those who
train for high-level athletic or other physical skills in their
profession, and athletes from other adventure sports (call ahead if you
have questions about your eligibility). While more expensive and
demanding for the first jump, AFF training saves one or two jumps over
the tandem progression and five to six jumps over the static-line
progression on the way to independent supervision (all programs require
25 jumps toward "A"
license). We recommend that all students enter the
accelerated freefall program by training Category C (between three and
six jumps). Accelerated Freefall provides personalized instruction for
students seriously interested in becoming a skydiver. (For those curious
about skydiving or interested in making only one or two jumps, we
recommend the tandem program.) AFF skydives are made from 10,500-13,500
feet with your own parachute system (provided). Two AFF Jumpmasters fly
alongside with harness grips. The training course is demanding and
includes aircraft exit, freefall body position, altitude awareness,
canopy control, landing. Jumpers not meeting the rigorous training
standards of the AFF first-jump course will be required to make at least
one tandem jump first, and there is no refund for the AFF portion of the
course. Ground school is approximately 6 - 8 hours. Jump same day
weather permitting. Additional
AFF training progression skydives cost considerably less. By appointment
only, we usually offer the first AFF jump ground school Saturday and Sunday
mornings starting 8 AM. See

Here's Julie's first

Lambert and Sid Bailin, although the actual skydive doesn't start until
after 3:45 of annoying introductory stuff.

Here's another AFF
Skydive Video! 17,700 MPEG file by Jake
Davis at Skydive Orange. This'll take quite a while to download
with slow dial up connections. Only thing is, it's actually OK if you SMILE in freefall!
Our 22 jumper twin engine aircraft
allows 3,000' more altitude for the same student's price in most cases! We
prefer the big plane and use it almost exclusively on weekends, and for most
weekday jumps too, but which aircraft we use is your jumpmaster's decision,
decided by logistics just before each skydive. Our smaller plane usually
goes to 10,500' for about a 45 second student skydiver freefall tandem
skydive ride.
Student equipment used at Skydive Orange
is state-of-the-art parachuting equipment. All main and reserve student parachutes
used are large docile ram-air, rectangular shaped parachutes, so landing
under one of these parachutes may be so light that there is little choice
but to stand up. At Skydive Orange, we
have a vast landing area, and a 6400 square ft. carpeted hanger.
Important First Jump Factors:
You
must weigh less than 220 lbs.
(See the weight FAQ
for overweight charges)
and be at least 18 years
old. Picture ID with date of birth checked.
Do not give blood or scuba dive within 24 hours before jumping.
To schedule skydiving classes, I will need a $50 non refundable deposit per person, see http://www.skydiveorange.com/faq.htm#far
. Each person needs to be at least 18 years old, able to read, write, be
in reasonably good physical and mental condition, understand the English
language, and be under
220#. They need to bring a picture ID with DOB
like a driver's, and must arrive on time. Balance in Cash, Bank or postal
MO, or Visa /MasterCard /Amex /Discover (the posted prices are cash
discounted, credit card prices are a bit higher). Call me weekdays, I am
usually near the phone 9 AM - 9 PM Monday - Friday at (877) 348-3759 with
a credit card number to schedule. Trying to guess the weather rarely
works. It is each person's responsibility to turn up as scheduled, with
the understanding that if the weather does turn out bad, they will have to
reschedule their jump. Meanwhile, I would love to have you check out
Skydive Orange ahead of time on a weekend, call the hanger first (540)
672-5054 to check that we are indeed jumping as planned. Having said this
about scheduling and deposits, we'll gladly try to accommodate any size
group on any lead time; don't hesitate to tell us what you'd like and we
will do our best to accommodate you if we can.
This year we plan to fly our 22 jumper Super Otter which carries up to 22 jumpers to 13,000'
and we are scheduling skydives Wednesday through Sunday weather
permitting.
But why skydive at Skydive Orange? We have area's best aircraft, a 22
jumper twin turbine Super Otter, modern skydiving equipment that we are constantly
selling and replacing with new, and an outstanding staff- see http://www.skydiveorange.com/reasons.htm
Even if the weather looks
uncooperative,
plan on attending ground school.. Ground school, except
Tandem skydives, takes quite a while;
weather could and often does clear by the
time instruction is completed. When you come out to skydive, there
is always a chance the weather will be bad so you will have to return another day. If you don't come to the airport, you definitely will
not jump that day!
Tell all your friends about us! but don't wait for them all to
join you. Chances are out of a group of 4-20 friends who say
they also want to skydive, when you collect their deposits to schedule, most of them will say their knees itch,
or their eyes are stuck, they can't even see to change channels, let alone
skydive - better just come out yourself lest you never know the thrill of skydiving! - Then when they hear your
stories, they'll join you for your second skydive!
WE SKYDIVE WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY..
We usually offer all kinds of jumps
Saturday and Sunday. We can usually arrange weekday Tandems and repeat
AFF jumps. Email or call me, I will try to arrange what you want. Click HERE
